I had an incredible time hosting lunch yesterday at Next Coast Ventures with some brilliant B2B software sales leaders. It took me back to 2018, when I was running sales at Workrise, and we 4X'ed revenue that year. A few takeaways: 1️⃣ We discussed how critical it is to nail your ICP - and not just through product marketing research. One must consider a large sample size of conversations and opportunities (particularly to avoid bias from the loudest sales rep, biggest customer, or most recent conversation). 2️⃣ We explored the latest and greatest in tech tools. From tried-and-true solutions to new contenders, we delved into our tech stack, including game-changers like Distribute, Champify, Apollo.io, and Clay. 3️⃣ We unpacked the art of turning customers into sales advocates. From crafting case studies to leveraging referrals and customer advisory boards, we shared insights on driving sales from customers. 4️⃣ We discussed the nuances between value-based and feature selling and explored how aligning your sales methodology with customer needs leads to more successful deals. 5️⃣ We explored the power of executive sponsorship and, crucially, how to educate and influence executive sponsors to collaborate effectively. 6️⃣ We debated the merits and pitfalls of including pipeline generation in SDR compensation. 7️⃣ We shared insights on maintaining a healthy pipeline and the value of deal integrity. Grateful for the wealth of knowledge shared by these leaders!
